Holiday Block Decorations Contest

This year we are introducing a street decorating contest that will be judged block by block so please get your neighbors to participate. The winning block will be announced on 12/16. There’s no award for this contest, but the winning block will be published in The Bridge and will have bragging rights for the year. Good Luck!!!

2024 HOLIDAY HOME DECORATIONS CONTEST

Guidelines/Rules and Instructions

1. Participation is open to all Balboa Island residents.
2. Entry applications must be received by 5PM on 12/5 (Sunday).
3. Contest is for exterior decorations only, including decorations in windows that are visible from the exterior. Judging will be done from outside the residence only.
4. Judging will be based on “curb appeal” as viewed from the street only. Therefore, only those decorations located on the street side of the property will be judged (corner lots will be judged from both streets). 
5. Judging criteria will include: creative use of lights and decorations, display and placement of decorations, coverage, overall appeal and presentation.
6. Preliminary judging will be done from 6:30PM to 10:00PM on December 12^th-14^th. Final judging will take place from 6:30PM to 10:00PM on December 15^th. 
7. Participants should ensure that all lights, animations and decorations are in place and activated for the judging periods on ALL nights of judging.
8. The winner (top scoring home) will have their name engraved on the BIIA Holiday Home Decorations Contest Perpetual Trophy which will be displayed in the Balboa Island Museum.  Keepsake garden flags will be awarded to all top scoring homes.
9. Winners will be announced by email and published in The Bridge.
10. Participants agree to have photos of their decorated residence posted on the BIIA website, or published in the BIIA newsletter or The Bridge magazine. There will be no compensation of any kind for said posting or publication.
11. Be creative, be festive and have fun!
