President’s Message

I’m honored to share my first message as the newly elected President of the Balboa Island Improvement Association. Balboa Island has always been more than a place—it’s a community defined by connection, pride, and a shared love for our Island home. As I step into the role of President of the BIIA I’m excited to take on the challenge of shaping its next chapter. Thank you for the opportunity to serve this wonderful community — it is a privilege I take to heart.
I would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Dan Abbott, who has completed two outstanding years as President including six years of dedicated service on the Board. We are grateful for Dan’s leadership, and commitment. I would also like to acknowledge the service of Larry Kallestad, Terry Janssen, Sue Sibley, and Penny Rodheim, who have completed their final terms as Directors on our Board. They will be difficult to replace. I have a feeling we’ll still be seeing them around as volunteers.
Before looking ahead, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of Annette Giermann, a devoted Board member and volunteer. Her absence leaves a significant void in our organizvolun and in our hearts. As we look ahead to a new year, I’m excited for what we can accomplish together. The BIIA thrives because of the energy, ideas, and passion of our members, and I encourage anyone who has ever considered getting more involved to take that next step — whether by joining the Board of Directors or volunteering at one of our many events and activities. Your participation not only supports the work we do but helps preserve the sense of community that makes Balboa Island so special. Our mission is to
“Preserve the unique Island culture, promote community engagement, and foster a safe, clean, vibrant environment for the benefit of Balboa Island Residents.”
Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to working with all of you in the year ahead. Sue Pearl, BIIA President
