A NEW ISLAND IMPROVEMENT PROJECT FROM THE BALBOA ISLAND IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION

Dear Balboa Island Improvement Association Members,

This year marks a profound milestone in our nation’s history—the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Several months ago, a resident, Kimberly Worsnop, approached me with the idea of installing a Flagpole near the intersection of Park and Marine Avenues to mirror the one on Little Island. I thought it was an excellent idea and asked her to research the concept and present it at our January Board meeting. The Board of Directors overwhelmingly approved the proposal.

As President, my goal is to keep the focus of the Balboa Island Improvement Association on meaningful improvements—working together with our members to make Balboa Island an even better place to live.

We are now coming together as a community to install a permanent Flagpole with a yardarm on the “Big Island” as a symbol of unity, gratitude, and the enduring spirit of both our community and our country. The Flagpole will be located in the center median near the intersection of Marine Avenue and Park Avenue, mirroring the Little Island Flagpole just across the bridge. In addition to the installation, our vision includes enhancing the same median with floral landscaping and uplighting.

We invite BIIA members to become proud donors to this commemorative project. The total project cost is $25,000, and your support will help bring this vision to life—ensuring this symbol stands for generations to come. Contributions are intentionally limited to $500 per person.

As a special recognition, the names of all donors will be included on a commemorative plaque at the base of the Flagpole. Having your name on this permanent plaque is a meaningful way to be part of this historic island enhancement.

To stay on schedule for an early July unveiling and community celebration, we kindly ask that donations be made by May 22. The names of the first 50 donors received by that date will be included on the plaque (individual and family names no businesses).

This is an excellent opportunity to create lasting beauty on Balboa Island while reflecting both pride in our country and love for the community we share.
